City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development plans for the future of the Galewood-Armitage industrial corridor
- Market analysis for City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development, including meeting local business owners and industrial brokers
- Recommendations and strategies used to assist local economic development organization
Requirement
The City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development asked us to prepare a market analysis for the Galewood-Armitage corridor, an older industrial area on the west side of the City.
Approach
Currently home to several large companies – including Mars Candy – the area also hosts numerous smaller, locally-owned companies. We met with surrounding business owners and industrial brokers, identified sites for redevelopment, and analyzed competitive forces affecting demand for buildings and sites in the area.
Results
Our recommendations included advice on physical improvements and procedural and public service changes, as well as marketing strategies to retain existing businesses and attract new ones to the area. The market study is currently being used to help the local economic development organization attract businesses to the area. The City also used the study in its decision-making to retain the corridor as a Planned Manufacturing District.
